O Programa de Pós-graduação em Oceanografia realiza nesta segunda-feira, 17 de outubro, às 10:00, a palestra “Harmful algae blooms and phycotoxins at Baja California (Mexico) coasts” com o Dr. Ernesto García-Mendoza (CICESE/México). O evento será realizado na Sala SIPG08, Dep. de Microbiologia, Imunologia e Parasitologia/UFSC.

Resumo: Harmful algae blooms and phycotoxins at the coasts of Baja California, Mexico produced by certain microalgae can affect public health, commercial and recreational fisheries, and cause harmful effects to marine mammals and birds. Since 2007, the toxin concentratiosn in particulate matter, planktivorous fish (sardine and anchovy) and shellfish, in Baja California, Northwest coast of Mexico were monitored. In the present wirk, the implications and possible causes of the appearance of these emerging problems in the Baja California region are discussed.
